In Pakistan, a CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card) may be blocked by NADRA due to verification, legal, or record issues. A blocked CNIC can cause serious problems such as bank account freeze, SIM blockage, passport issues, and property or court matters.
🔍 How to Check if Your CNIC Is Blocked
✅ Method 1: SMS Verification
Open SMS on your mobile
Type your 13-digit CNIC number (without dashes)
Send it to 8300
You will receive a reply showing CNIC status
📌 If blocked, the reply usually mentions verification required / CNIC blocked
✅ Method 2: NADRA Registration Center (NRC)
Visit nearest NADRA Registration Center
Provide original CNIC
Ask for CNIC status verification
✅ Method 3: Bank / SIM Issue Indicator
Your CNIC may be blocked if:
Bank account is frozen
SIMs are blocked
Passport application is rejected
Property registry is stopped
These are indirect signs of a blocked CNIC.

🔓 How to Unblock CNIC in Pakistan
✅ Step 1: Visit NADRA Registration Center
Go to:
- Executive NRC (recommended for speed)
- Or Normal NRC
- Carry:
- Original CNIC
- B-Form / Family Registration Certificate (if available)
- Parents’ CNICs
- Marriage Nikahnama (if applicable)
- Any NADRA slip or message
✅ Step 2: Apply for CNIC Verification / Unblocking
Request:
- “CNIC Unblocking / Verification Application” NADRA will:
- Verify family tree
- Cross-check records
- Identify objection (if any)
✅ Step 3: Resolve NADRA Objection
Depending on objection, you may be required to:
- Update family members’ records
- Add/remove spouse or parents
- Submit affidavit
- Provide union council certificates
- Submit court decree (in some cases)
✅ Step 4: Biometric Verification
- Fresh fingerprints
- Photograph
- Signature

⚖️ If CNIC Is Blocked Due to Court Order
You must:

If you present your Cnic in bank for account open , they will return and deny if your Cnic is blocked. You can't use your blocked id card for issuing sim , or apply for any job, not use any where if it's blocked.
The family court was blocking the id cards in past some years, who were not paying the maintenance to the wives as per ordered of the court,
So it was common that for recovery of maintenance allowance, family courts were blocking the id cards, which was illegal as per in Case law Lahore high court decided.
Now any family court can't block CNIC (id card) because id card is the fundamental right of every citizen.
